The sum of two numbers is 72. one number is 4 less than the other number. what are the two numbers?

Let 1st number be = x
Thus second number = x - 4

Now

(x) + (x - 4) = 72
2x - 4 = 72
2x = 76
x = 38

1st number is 38 thus 2nd number is (38 - 4) = 34
