You could use many excuses such as: my dog ate it (how original), I was sick, I needed you to explain it to me, I lost it and needed a new one, my house caught on fire, a family member died, a family member was in the hospital, you left it at a friends then got sick and were in quarantine so you couldn't get it. Be very elaborate and use lots of detail. Be as believable as possible.
