Is this a good definition

A cat is an animal with whiskers.

Yes, but it could be more thorough, like for example:a small domesticated carnivorous mammal with soft fur, a short snout, and retractile claws. It is widely kept as a pet or for catching mice, and many breeds have been developed.

Rather we can say many things as - a cat is a carnivorous animal and also kept as a pet. It has whiskers and feast on mice etc.
