the commutative property, although you can do it with multiplication and addition, you can not do the commutative property with subtraction and division. here is why:

/= 4/2= 2, but u cannot do 2/2 because it equals 1.

-= 4-2= 2, but 2-2=1.

Addition and multiplication go together, just like subtraction and multiplication. they are what we call inverse operations. if subtraction isn't commutative, neither is division. if addition is commutative than multiplication is too.

look:

+=1+4= 5 or 4+1=5
*= 1*4= 4 or 4*1=4
they are commutative, but there are two properties, commutative property of addition or multiplication. in your case you will use commutative property.
