The area would be 38 inches because 9x6=54 and then you take out the area of a 4x4 and the area of that is 16 so you would do 54-16=38

Answer:

38 square inches

Explanation:

Given: A 9-inch by 6-inch rectangle with a 4-inch by 4-inch square removed from one corner.

To find: Area of the remaining portion.

Solution:

In order to find the area of the remaining portion, we first need to find the area of rectangle, and area of square, then we need to subtract the area of square from area of rectangle.

We have, the dimension of rectangle as 9-inch by 6-inch

So area of rectangle
=6*9=54 square inches

We have dimension of square as 4 inch.

So, area of square
=4*4=16 square inches

Now, area of remaining portion
=\text{area of rectangle}-\text{area of square}

area of remaining portion
=54-16=38 square inches

Hence, area of remaining portion is 38 square inches.
