Banff and Minsk are located at similar latitudes. What could account for Banff’s average yearly temperature being lower than Minsk’s?

There are several factors that could cause the difference in temperatures of two areas being in the same latitudes. One is the presence of a large body of water nearby. This prevents the rapid change in temperature. Mountains can also have an effect on the temperature of the area. They block winds and also maintain temperatures.
