1/6 = x / 42.....1 adult to 6 kids = x adults to 42 kids
cross multiply because this is a proportion
(6)(x) = (1)(42)
6x = 42
x = 42/6
x = 7.....so there are 7 adults to 42 kids

Since theres 1 adult per 6 children just divide 42 by 6 and you've got the answer! :D
