When city planners were designing suburbs, they created buildings and planned streets around cars instead of walking (D).

Because suburbs were outside the city where most people worked, the people living in suburbs had to use cars more than the people that lived in the city. Everything from shops and restaurants tended to be farther away from people living in the suburbs than it would have been in the city, so city planners planned the streets around cars instead of walking.
