ΔABC is a right triangle. ΔA'B'C' has a hypotenuse of 10 after ΔABC undergoes a dilation by a factor of 2. If ΔABC has a short leg of 5 - x and a long leg of 2x, what is the length of the short leg of ΔABC?

Answer:

3

Explanation:

ΔABC hypotenuse =

10

2

= 5

c2 = a2 + b2

52 = (5 - x)2 + (2x)2

x = 2 or x = 0

thus,

ΔABC short leg = 5 - x = 5 - 2 = 3

You are given ΔABC as a right triangle. ΔA'B'C' has a hypotenuse of 10 after ΔABC undergoes a dilation by a factor of 2. And if ΔABC has a short leg of 5 - x and a long leg of 2x, the length of the short leg of ΔABC is 3
