-\frac12x+3=-x+7

Add -3 to both sides:

-\frac12x+3-3=-x+7-3

-\frac12x=-x+4

Multiply both sides by -2:

-2*\left(-\frac12\right)x=-2(-x+4)

x=-2(-x+4)

On the right hand side, distribute the -2:

x=2x-8

Add -2x to both sides:

x-2x=2x-2x-8

-x=-8

Divide by -1:

(-x)/(-1)=(-8)/(-1)

x=8

(and not
x=-8, unless the original equation wasn't correctly written/interpreted?)
