Kevin is making a picture frame. He has a piece of trim that is 4 feet long.How many 14−inch-long pieces can Kevin cut from the trim?How much of a foot will he have left over?

3 pieces and 1/2 of a foot

Explanation:

1. 4 feet converts to 48 inches. (4 X 12)

2. 48 inches divided by 14 can make three pieces

14+14+14=42 inches.

3. You will have 6 inches left over, and 6/12 is half of a foot :)

First, convert 4 feet into inches - 48 inches. Then, divide 48 by 14 to get 3.43, so he can have 3 14-inch long pieces. To get the left over out of a foot, take 14 x 3 to get 42, then subtract 42 from your original 48 inches to get 6 inches left, which is half of a foot.
