Substitute 3.5 for k
8+4(3.5)=8+14=22

8 + 4 all you do is substitute 3.5 for K. Since they are right next to each other, with no symbol in between, you multiply them 8+4×3.5. Then, just follow the order of operations, and multiply 4×3.5 first, you get 14, then add 8. Your final answer is 22.
