Mike dove to an elevation of -40 feet, and Julio dove to an elevation of -50 feet. Mike says thY because -40 is greater than -50, he dove farther than Julio. Use absolute value to explain Mike's error.

Mike is wrong. Instead, absolute value should be used to compare these depths. The absolute value of |-40| is 40, while the absolute value of |-50| is 50. Since 50 < 40, Julio dove farther.

Answer and Step-by-step explanation:

Since we have given that

Length of elevation that Mike dove = -40 feet

Length of elevation that Julio dove = -50 feet

But according to question, Mike said that he drove farther than Julio.

But there is an error in Mike's evaluation.

We have to consider absolute value.

As both the person going downward in depth.

so, Length of elevation that Mike dove in absolute = |-40|=40 feet

Similarly, Length of elevation that Julio dove in absolute value = |-50| = 50 feet

And we know that 40 < 50.

So, Julio dove farther than Mike.

Mike dove to an elevation of -40 feet, and Julio dove to an elevation of -50 feet-example-1
