The fishing industry was not a major one in American economy by 1914. In fact, the fishing industry in the United States has never made a difference in the national GDP, always placing itself in positions lower than the 5th position with respect to the contribution that each area makes to the GDP.

To make matters worse, World War I and its naval battles made that the fishing industry could not develop normally during that year.
