Which ordered pair is the vertex of y = |x + 2| – 1?

please show me the steps


(1, –2)


(–1, 2)


(–2, –1)

Since the vertex of the parent function (original graph) is (0,0)
you move 2 units to the left because 'x+2' (if it was 'x-2' we move to the right, its a rule) and we move 1 unit down because '-1' again if it was +1 then vice versa.
And that's your vertex (-2,-1)

the vertex is the lowest or highest point

sub a massive positive value for x and we get a massive positiive value for y
sub a massive negative value for x and we get a massive positiive value for y
we need to find the minmum
make teh absolue value equal to 0

|x+2|=0
x+2=0
x=-2


at x=-2

sub to find y value
y=|-2+2|-1
y=|0|-1
y=-1


(x,y)
(-2,-1)
