I'm having trouble understanding this word problem and how they got 6x=44+2x from it.

The word problem is 'The product of a number and 6 is 44 more than twice the number. What is the number?

Ok well since it says the product of a number and 6 is 44 more than twice the number. and from this they got 6x=44+2x because it SAYS THE PRODUCT OF A NUMBER U DON'T KKNOW WHAT THE NUMBER IS SO U USE A VARIABLE WHICH IS 6X THEY GOT = 44 FROM THE PRODUCT AND 2X FROM MORE THAN TWICE THE NUMBER AND TWICE IS 2 AND U DON'T KNOW WHAT THE NUMBER IS SO ONCE AGAIN USE A VARIABLE

HOPE THIS HELPED

the " product " means multiply...

the product of a number and 6.......6*x or just 6x
" is " means equals
44 more then twice the number......44 more means u r gonna add 44.......twice the number.....means multiply the number (x) by 2......giving u 2x + 44...or 44 + 2x

so ur equation is :
6x = 44 + 2x.....subtract 2x from both sides
6x - 2x = 44
4x = 44....divide both sides by 4
x = 44/4
x = 11....so ur number is 11
