President Roosevelt created the Georgia Warm springs Foundation. As he was suffering from polio, he was doing all in his power in order to get healed. In one of his travels to GA he met George Foster Peabody. Peabody told Roosevelt of a small resort near his native Columbus that had mineral spring waters that theoretically had healing qualities. The following month, Roosevelt took the first of many trips to his “second home” of Warm Springs. In time, he would consider himself an adopted son of Georgia. The Roosevelt Warm Springs Institute for Rehabilitation is still operating. In 1938, FDR founded the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis.
