Why did the French explore, claim, & colonize parts of North America?

Well france controlled the center of north america :)
Detroit, Quebec, Montreal, and what is now New York. Also: New Orleans, but that was in the 15th & 16th century. But france wanted colonies in America because Great Britain had sent better officers and more troops to America.

A few things including the following, the three G's were important to them, which is God, Gold, and Glory. they were trying to gather those things. also they wanted land to expand the kingdom, and they were especially looking for gold, and to be rich. exploration also got lots of people famous so many poor explored, and kings dominated other places like spain, while they were focused on expanding. hope i helped, tag me if you need helpĀ
