First, you have to multiply 1/2 x 3
But you need to put the 3 over one so it will look like : 3/1
Then you multiply 1/2 x 3/1 which gives you the answer of 1 1/2

.5 x 3 = 1.5
1.5 - .5 = 1
Karen will need one more cup of sugar to triple the recipe
