harry stonecipher, the former ceo of boeing, had a consensual extramarital affair with a female executive and was replaced because his behavior violated boeing's code of ethical conduct. many managers like stonecipher have taken the view that their decisions are governed by either law or free choice. contrast this mistaken view with the domain of ethics.

Our domain does not necessarily set specific laws for certain behavior. Ethics is a code that is primarily governed by moral principles and values. It does set standards of conduct based on what are the shared values and principles. Having extramarital affair with the female executive is in every way against the shared values of people because this is an adulterous act.
