She should see how far she's gone then do that exact meausement she did, a second time, and youll find 1 foot, because 0.5 + 0.5 =1

Find a straight edge, mark the 0.5ft mark onto the straight edge that way it becomes a 0.5ft "ruler". Move the straight edge next to the mark and add another 0.5 ft.
