I have this math question and im confused

23=x-9;x=14
?
23=__-9
?
23=__

The answers would be 14 for the first and 23 for the second.

To solve, substitute the value of x, 14, into the equation then solve. However, I believe that you meant to make the - sign a + sign because that's the only way the statement would be true.

23 = x + 9 ; x=14
23 = 14 + 9
23 = 23
