NEED Probability and Statistics help!!!

A high school teacher recorded the number of hours each of his students spent on a social networking website in a particular week and related this with their scores on a math test they took at the end of the week. The data is represented in the scatter plot.

Qualitatively evaluate the information in the scatter plot. An acceptable estimate for the graph's correlation coefficient could be _______ (0.15, 0.50, 0.75, 1.00). Based on the data, we can conclude that the time students spent on the social networking website had a _______ (strong and positive, strong and negative, moderate and negative, weak or insignificant) effect on their performance on the test.

Answer:

  1. 0.15
  2. weak or insignificant

Explanation:

Correlation coefficient is used to represent the linear dependence of two variables or sets of data.

Its value ranges from -1 to 1.

-1 being the strongest negative linear relationship, 1 being the strongest positive linear relationship and 0 being no linear relationship.

As in this case, the points are dispersed throughout the scatter plot, so the value of correlation coefficient must be closed to 0 i.e 0.15 (out of 0.15, 0.50, 0.75, 1.00)

And it represents a weak or insignificant relationship between the variables.
