German U-boats and fighter planes. The Germans were the first country to actually make a submarine and they had some of the fastest fighter planes at this time. Therefore any supplies could easily been destroyed by the Germans by air or water

Since the Battle of the Atlantic was going on at the time
German Submarines
would destroy British ships in order to prevent Britain from receiving supplies.
