Does this have to do with trade? I'm sure it would.

When the US recognized China's government, it then allows diplomatic and trade relations between the two nations. If they didn't recognize them as a government, they wouldn't do either with them.

Answer:

China was unified

Step-by-step explanation:

After the Xinhai Revolution in 1911, the government of the United States of America decided to recognize one specific government in China, despite the the fact that China had many governments ruling many different parts of China at that point. The one that was named as legitimate was the Government of the Chinese Republic which caused China to be reunified by a single government, led by the Kuomintang in 1928.
