Use either the distance formula or the Pythagorean Theorem. i suggest you plot the 2 given points and draw the line segment CD connecting these points.

What is the horiz. distance between the 2 points? The vertical distance?

If you'd square the horiz. distance and also square the vertical distance, and then add these two squares together, and finally take the positive square root of this sum, you'll have the distance cd. Round it off to the nearest tenth.

Answer: 15.0 units.

Explanation:

The distance between two points A (a,b) and B (c,d) is given by :-

AB=√((d-b)^2+(c-a)^2)

Given points : C=(7 -4) and D=(-8,-5)

Now, the distance between two points C=(7 -4) and D=(-8,-5) will be :-

CD=√((-5-(-4))^2+(-8-7)^2)\\\\\Rightarrow\ CD=√((-5+4)^2+(-15)^2)\\\\\Rightarrow\ CD=√((-1)^2+(-15)^2)\\\\\Rightarrow\ CD=√(1+225)\\\\\Rightarrow\ CD=√(226)=15.0332963784approx15.0

Hence, the distance between C=(7 -4) and D=(-8,-5) is CD = 15.0 units.
