Louis XIV called himself the "Sun King" because he thought that, like the sun, he was at the center of the French universe.

It took more than 20 years for Louis XIV 's parents (Louis XIII & Anne of Austria) to have him as their first child. Before his birth, his mom had experienced 4 stillbirths, which made his parents believed Louis' birth was a miracle.

Because of this belief, his parents called him "Louis-Dieudonné" which means gift of God. Apart from this, Mazarin also promoted on Louis the belief that Kings were divinely chosen. That's why Louis consider any disobedience to his commands would be sinful and took the sun as his symbol since France moved around him as the planets do around the Sun.
