we have the following:

3(2x+4)-2\left(4x-1\right)=20

solving for x:

\begin{gathered} 3(2x+4)-2\left(4x-1\right)=20 \\ 6x+12-8x+2=20 \\ -2x=20-12-2 \\ -2x=6 \\ x=(6)/(-2) \\ x=-3 \end{gathered}

The answer is x = -3
