The rate of change in a function f(x) is given by :-


k=\frac{\text{Change in f(x) }}{\text{Change in x}}

The given table :

Time (hours) Distance (miles)

4 260

6 390

8 520

10 650

The rate of change for the given table :-


k=\frac{\text{Change in distance }}{\text{Change in time}}\\\\\Rightarrow\ k=(390-260)/(6-4)=(130)/(2)=65

Hence, the rate of change for the situation = 65 miles per hour.
