the use clinker build.

while making the ship, the planks were overlaped at one age and rivetted together.
This will minimize the resistance and make their ships a lot more durable.

Vikings made ships of different sizes, but all of them had some common distinctive features. First of all, they were clinker built, so this means that their hulls were of overlapping planks. Also, the stems and sterns were decorated with the carved heads of terrifying dragons. On such ships, both sails and oars were used in order to move rapidly. The hull of such ships had to be wider in comparison with the one that sails on oars alone.
