Answer: Gym A is preferred to Gym B.

Explanation:

Since we have given that

Gym A charges as follows:

Cost of gym per month = $39.95

Fees for gym A would be

A=39.95x

Here, x denotes the number of months.

Gym B charges as follows:

Cost of gym per month = $14.95

Cost of per visit = $2.95

Fees for gym B would be

14.95x+2.95y

Here, y denotes the number of visits.

Let us assume that x = 1 month

y = 30 visits as each month has atleast 30 days.

So, Amount to be paid for gym A would be $39.95

Amount to be paid for gym B would be

14.95+2.95* 30\\\\=14.95+88.5\\\\=\$103.45

So, we get that gym A is cheaper than gym B.

Hence, Gym A is preferred to Gym B.

We make sample calculations per month, assuming that you visit the gym x times per month.

(1) $39.95 per month
(2) total = $14.95 + $2.95x

If we have the value of x, it is much easier for us to determine the answer by just substituting the value of x and solve. Whichever gives the lower cost will be our answer.
