Your friend is preparing a speech for class tomorrow. She asks you to watch her speech and give her feedback. During her speech she stares at her paper and rarely looks up. You can barely hear or understand what she is saying. She rocks back and forth from one leg to the other. Her speech lasts 28 minutes and is filled with long quotes from scientists. When she finishes you really don’t remember what she spoke about.

Prepare a critique of your friend’s speech. Remember the guidelines for effective critiques!

Answer: When you are giving a speech, don't stare down at your paper. You should make eye contact with your audience and help them understand your message. Any body movement, like rocking back and forth, will distract your audience and take away from your intended message. Keep your speech brief and concise or the audience will lose interest. Keep quotes to a minimum and only where it makes sense. Try to speak loudly and clearly so that your entire audience understands what you saying.

make eye contact with audience. don't have the paper cover your face since it blocks your sound. try to stand still. paraphrase the quotes so they are shorter and easier to understand.
