A bookmark is shaped like a rectangle with a semicircle attached at both ends. The rectangle is 15 cm long and 4 cm wide. The diameter of each circle is the width of the rectangle. What is the area of the bookmark? Use 3.14 for

Answer:

72.56 square cm

Explanation:

Area of rectangle = 15 · 4

Area of rectangle = 60

semi-circles at each end of rectangle equals one full circle

Area of circle = π · r²

Area of circle = π · 2²

Area of circle = 4π

Area of circle = 4(3.14) = 12.56

Add area of rectangle to area of circle:

60 + 12.56 = 72.56
