Answer:

Unfortunately, I cannot show the work because I got the answer from a friend, but he got

-2 +- root(14)/ 2

Use the quadratic formula
x = [-4 +- sqrt (16 - 4*2*-5)] / 4
x1 = [-4 + sqrt (56)] / 4

x2 = [-4 - sqrt (56)] / 4
