They did not survive because there would be no where for them to live so they would die off or the only way that they would survive is if they flew to another area that had the bark that they need

The moths that did not evolve,due to the lack of traits to survive, died off. Over time the species evolved/adjusted to the new conditions. Soon enough the whole species had evolved.
