Hemoglobin is a protein that carries oxygen. Hemoglobin is found in your body's red blood cells. Hemoglobin is composed of 4 subunits: two alpha and two beta. Oxygen binds to the heme prosthetic group found in each of the subunits. Typically, a fully functional hemoglobin can carry for molecules of oxygen.
