When comparing two jobs, Chris noticed that the hours every week were the same at each, but the job at the hospital paid $3.00 per hour more than the job at the mall. She can earn $440 per week at the hospital and $320 per week at the mall. What is the hourly wage at the mall?

Answer:

$8

Explanation:

Let the hourly wage of mall be x

Since we are given that the job at the hospital paid $3.00 per hour more than the job at the mall.

So, hourly wage at hospital = x+3

Now She can earn $440 per week at the hospital

So, no. of hours she worked in hospital =
(440)/(x+3)

Now she can earn $320 per week at mall

No. of hours worked at mall =
(320)/(x)

Since we are given that the hours every week were the same at each

(320)/(x)=(440)/(x+3)

320(x+3)=440x

320x+960=440x

960=440x-320x

960=120x

(960)/(120)=x

8=x

Hence the hourly wage at mall is $8

let the hourly wage at mall=$x
number of hours=320/x
then hourly wage at hospital=$x+3
number of hours=440/(x+3)

now (320)/(x) = (440)/(x+3) cross multiply 440x=320(x+3) 440x=320x+960
440x-320x=960 120x=960 x= (960)/(120) =8
so hourly wage at mall=$8
