Because of the growth of factories many American Workers became very sick, but also a lot of jobs opened due to more factories being open and needing workers to work in them.

It changed our society from a mostly rural, agrarian one to an urban, manufacturing society. For the first time more people lived in cities than on farms. It raised the standard of living, made goods more affordable, and spurred new technology.
