Substitution property of equality if y=-5 and 7x+y=11, then

Subtraction Property of Equality.  Subtract 5 on both sides to get 7x=6.  Then do the Division Property of equality to get x= .86

x = 16/7 Because if you substitute -5 in for y you get x = 16/7 and you can check by plugging in 16/7 in for x and you get -5 for y so your answer is: x=16/7
