The given statement is True.

The sun heats the earth but this is done unevenly. The earth is more warmer in the equatorial plane and cooler on the polar side. The warm air from the equator side flows to the cooler sides to circulate the warmer air towards the colder regions. As the warm air has low pressure it travels towards the colder regions and eventually becomes denser to sink. This movement of air is known as convection currents.
