During the Industrial Revolution, the machinery caused soot to be in the air. And it darkened the bark. Because of this, darker moths lived longer because they blended into their surroundings. It's an example of natural selection.

Answer: The dark wing color was advantageous because it gave them protection from predators.

Explanation: In the ndustrial revolution era in England towards late 1800s, the dark soot in the air which emanated from industries darkened the wings of moths. This resulted to the longevity of darker moths because they were able to camouflage into their surroundings by thereby having a deceptive appearance protecting them from predators.
