How would the plants in a specific environment be impacted if there was a sudden drop in the amount of bacteria present in that area?

When bacteria decompose, they leave behind nutrients. These nutrient then filter unto the roots of the plants via the water that it sucks up. A loss in certain nutrients could be the death of this plant.
