Compared to other states, New Jersey is small. In fact because of this problem the Three-Fifths compromise was made. The legislature is made up of the House and the Senate. The House comprises of 435 members and is based upon population, therefore larger states have more say-so in everyday matters. This is why the Senate was created. The Senate is comprised of 100 members, 2 per state for equal representation no matter how large the state's population.

Hope this helps!
