the axis powers were a group of 3 powerful nations: japan, Germany, and Italy (which later switched sides to the allies like it did in the first world war). japan fought for land and power, Germany became bitter and angry from the loss of world war 1 and from what I've read about Italy, the tension between Italy and France was sky high which people didn't have much to worry about considering how useless both countries were in world war 1 anyway.
