During the 18th and 19th century, people were more focused on scientific thinking and human progress. The main topics of interest in scholarly thinking were those of science and reason. However, the Romantic movement constrasted with this trend. The Romantics highlighted the value of emotions in human life. Their focus was the emotional, the abstract, the individual, the shortcomings of progress, the superstitious and the supernatural.
