Answer

First find out the how many students participated .

As given

In a survey, a group of students were asked their favorite sport.

Eighteen students chose "other" sports.

Baseball- 40%

Football- 37.5%

Suppose that the total number of students are 100%.

Students play other sports percentage = Total percentage - Baseball percentage -Football percentage

= 100 - 40 - 37.5

= 22.5%

Formula

Percentage = (Part\ value* 100)/(Total\ value)

Here Percentage = 22.5%

Part value = 18

Put in the formula

22.5 = (18* 100)/(Total\ value)

Total\ value = (1800)/(22.5)

Total value = 80

Therefore the students participated are 80.

Now find out the how many chose football .

Here Percentage = 37.5%

Total value = 80

Put in the formula

37.5 = (Part\ value* 100)/(80)

Part\ value = (37.5* 80)/(100)

Part\ value = (3000)/(100)

Part value = 30

Therefore the 30 students chose football .
