8^2 + b^2 = 18^2
64+b^2=324
b^2=324-64
b^2=260 find the square root of both sides
b=square root of 65

8^2+b^2=18^2
Simplify the exponents. For 8^2, it is 8*8, just as an example.
64+2b=324
Subtract 64 on both sides.
2b=260
Divide each side by 2.
b=130
The value of b is 130.
