If your talking about Alexander the great I think it was because his army begged him to turn around and go back home because of the harsh weathers and they were very tired.

Alexander the Great, also called Alexander of Macedonia was one of the most important conquerors of history. He expanded his empire across Central Asia, he led his army himself.

But after eight years expanding his empire, went the army reached the Indus River in Western India his army refused to go further. Alexander returned to Susa, a Persian city and made plans of unifying his empire.
