Use the distributive property.
9/10 (x + 8) = 18
9/10x + 7.2 = 18
9/10x + 7.2 - 7.2 = 18 - 7.2
9/10x = 10.8
9/10x / 9/10 = 10.8 / 9/10
x = 12
