The volume, V, of a rectangular prism is determined using the formula , where l is the length, w is the width, and h is the height of the prism. Carltren solves for w and writes the equivalent equation w = . Using this formula, what is the width of a rectangular prism that has a volume of 138.24 cubic inches, a height of 9.6 inches, and a length of 3.2 inches?

you want to start with L which is 3.2 multiply this by the width 138.8 you get= 444.16 then you multiply that by 9.6 you get = 4263.94 I could be wrong but I Just multiplied it.

Answer:

w=4.5 inches

Explanation:

The formula to get the volume is:

V=l*w*h

Where

  • V= volume
  • l= length
  • w= width
  • h= hight

They give us fome information:

V=138.24 in^3

h= 9.6 in

l= 3.2 in

w= ?

We want to know what is the measure of w.

We have to write the equation V=l*w*h in terms of w, to do it we have to send everything that is multiplying w to the other side dividing.

V / l*h=w

Now that we have w alone we can substitute the values that we have:

138.24in^3 / 3.2in * 9.6in = w

We solve, first by multiplying the numbers in the denominator:

138.24 in^3 / 30.72
in^(2) = w

And now we solve for w dividing the two numbers:

4.5in = w or w = 4.5in
